In the competitive private lending space, a combination of speed, execution, and capital is crucial for success. Whether an institution is seeking to raise capital by attracting new investors, or maintain rigorous underwriting standards, accurate historical data must be readily available to key decision-makers. As we enter the age of reporting automation and transformation, asset managers need to have consistent data from one source, a source of truth. Data transformation and its integration into an interactive system is fundamental to success in today’s landscape. As we enter the age of automation and AI, it is imperative that asset managers in the private markets have accurately reported data points. This allows the key decision makers to make informed decisions with speed and precision. This is especially true in the increasingly competitive private lending space. The challenge of undertaking such an initiative is that it requires input from several parties on the client side. Principals, VPs, and associates may arrive at differing interpretations of key data points from the policy established by the client’s Performance group. To begin, a three-way cross analysis of in-scope metrics is required. Once completed, investment professionals are engaged to validate and correct deal-level data to match the other sources of data for the deals they are responsible for. For edge cases where policy application may materially misrepresent the historical results, a committee of Principals and Senior Directors is consulted. The finalized data is to then integrated into an interactive system that enables efficient analysis and executive decision making. An asset manager operating in the private markets had inconsistent historical performance data between 3 different sources of data; the firm’s historical reporting values, security master, and Credit Management System. This presented a challenge because this historical deal data still goes out to investors and partners on a quarterly basis. OmniVista led a data governance project which aimed to provide a high degree of consistency between the 3 data sources and improve historical accuracy of reporting. Historical data was integrated into the client’s Credit management system for an entire US fund. The OmniVista team partnered with the client’s Fundraising team, Performance Reporting Group, as well as senior investment professionals to complete this comprehensive initiative across an entire fund. ▢ Increased confidence in historical reporting for investors and partners. ▢ Accurate data improves ability to analyze internal performance trends and benchmark against competitors. ▢ Enhanced underwriting discipline through reliable historical fund and portfolio data.Executive Summary
